Ongoing Software and Harvest Planning

Alabama Power Company

F4 Tech was involved from the beginning and brought Alabama Power from having virtually no data to a fully populated database with tools and processes to perform growth and yield analyses, forest inventory and harvest scheduling.

This ongoing project started in 2004 and F4 Tech originally performed a stand mapping and strata level forest inventory for the 150,000-acre land base. F4 also delivered a custom version of SilvAssist Toolbar for ArcGIS that includes Stand Events and Growth and Yield Tools through Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS). Since that time, these systems have been upgraded to provide the latest innovations from the SilvAssist Suite including Inventory Manager, Events Manager and SilvAssist Mobile.

F4 provides annual maintenance for the tools provided, data management and updates, and training and modeling services for strategic level model. With Alabama Power, F4 has helped to bring the data and models from the strata to stand level. The current model is now at the stand level and supports operational planning.

Data processing and handling are now drastically simplified. Reported savings in this area of around 50 percent. The annual planning and budgeting process is much more streamlined and there is more confidence in the results, since it is data-driven.

Project Status: Ongoing annual maintenance and modeling services
